27 February 2015, Fujairah - Due to high winds and rough seas, safety officers, UIM and WPPA officials deemed the conditions in Fujairah unsafe for racing. As a result the Fujairah GP, which was to take place at 3.30pm this afternoon, has been postponed to 11am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

Safety was the main concern with the high winds

Speaking about the situation, Secretary General of the WPPA Sid Bensalah said: “The weather forecast that we’ve been monitoring the last few days didn’t have any sign of really extreme weather but unfortunately this is nature and as much as we can check the forecast and have a plan in place, the weather changed completely very suddenly. “As a result we had to follow procedure in not taking any risks when it comes to safety and we called it off for today and will run it tomorrow morning instead.” Bensalah said all stakeholders in the event were consulted in making the decision to postpone the race, including local authorities, officials and the teams themselves. As for the forecast for Saturday, Bensalah added: “The forecast we have, fingers crossed, is nor a north easterly wind, maximum of 10 knots which is perfect to run the race.”
