The Board of Directors of the Dubai-based World Professional Powerboating Association (WPPA) has appointed motorsport expert Ronan Morgan as its first CEO.
Commenting on this appointment, HE Dr Saif Al Ketbi, President of the WPPA, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ronan Morgan as the first CEO of the WPPA and we have great hope in achieving exciting accomplishments in future utilising Ronan’s distinguished talents and wide experience.
Morgan has enjoyed considerable global success in the world of motorsport. The former professional championship rally co-driver for 27 years, who started his career in the 70s, went on to win 54 FIA international rallies and 10 Middle East championships with multiple champion Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Upon his retirement as a co-driver the Irishman entered the world of motorsport management and has built an impressive CV of event management, including being the project director of the Wales Rally GB. Morgan was also co-promoter for Rally Ireland and won the bid to stage Ireland’s hugely successful World Rally Championship in 2007.
In 2009 he was appointed Motorsport Director of the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE). With this responsibility came the role of Clerk of the Course (Sporting Manager) of the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix along with Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and Dubai International Rallies.
Morgan was the director of the Motorsport Knowledge Institute, an FIA Institute Regional Training Provider, and headed training teams teaching other motorsport federations around the world specialising in officials’ safety training.
Morgan is also a member of the Volunteer and Officials Commission and Cross Country Rally Commission of the FIA.
“I would like to thank the WPPA President and the Board members for their confidence in me,” said Morgan, after taking up his new position.
“I am looking forward to leading the WPPA and its operations and will spare no efforts in offering the powerboating community the experience I have gained over the years in my motorsport career.”
