At Today’s Official Press Conference the WPPA and Swiss Lagoon Trophy was represented by Mr Issa Bin Khabash (Vice Prsident of The WPPA) Mr Ali Bin Hendi (Acting CEO - WPPA) and Mr Mario Tamborini (President - Swiss Lugano Trophy) Bruno Huber (Director - Swiss Lagoon Trophy).
Both Parties joined forces for a 3 year deal between securing the race forLugano and the WPPAfor the next 3 seasons. They Announced the next meeting in Lugano Switzerland for 7th, 8th and 9th of July 2017.
The Swiss Organizers acknowledged that they were met with some challenges in taking on this magnificent event to for one ch
allenge being the lack of space along the coastline for facilities like a dry pit area for the boats to be stored, support crew to work and refueling, The Swiss Organizes said that local government were very helpful with to solve the issue by allocating a public space for this facility, they also added that they have completely complied with the UIM Standards and Environmental Authorities (environmental certificate can be viewed on their website).
They were asked what made their venue different compared to other venues locations, it was a great
experience and learning curve. They were asked what makes their race venue different from others, Swiss Organizers were proud to say that “it’s like a natural Amphitheatre being enclosed by the beautiful picturesque mountains” they also added that there were lots of public areas for the fans to come and enjoy the event.
Ali Bin Hendi Acting CEO of the WPPA believes for the Event to become even bigger than what it already has said “Not only do we have to put on a professional well organized exciting event, we also have to be affordable” He also added that the Swiss Organizers had high standard to meet and that he and the WPPA was very proud to have met those standards and that a dream has become a reality.
The Official Practice Run today will most certainly Lay the foundation For a very competitive race for the main event which starts tomorrow.
Walking through the Dry Pit area early this morning there was a feeling of calm although the team pit crews were still working on the final touches on the boats before the practice runs. The Drivers were doing their final inspection and their general comments was that they were feeling good, confident and looking forward to a nice clean practice session starting at 15:00 CET.
Well its 15:00 CET, the boat have been craned in the water, drivers getting ready to go out and test their boats work out their strategies and above all push their boats to the limits for the perfect fastest run.
The Practice run proved to be intense as the drivers pushed their boats to the limits to get the best lap time over a 90 minute period. It was a very close one as what separated 1st and 2nd place was just a bling of an eye.
Taking out the fastest time of the day was Victory Team (3) with 02.25.460 with a top speed of 154.63kmh (96.2mph)
Second Place Swecat Racing (2) with 02.25.933
Third Place was Dubai (33) with 02.26.638
In Fourth Place was Team Australia (5) with 02.26.973 In Fifth Place was Lady Spain (46) with 02.27.086
